If you find a old lens still in good conditions, try it on your digital camera body, you will enjoy the joys of photography not because how good is your equipment, but your passion in photography, imagination, skills and techniques.
In digital photography, you are encourage to make mistakes and shoot whatever unusual ways, delete it if you don't like it.
The most important is that don't take the image size too big as 15MB for each picture, try to start with the smallest image size to practice until you get used to your camera with your lens.
